Do I apply directly to the major?
| School or program | What to check |
|---|---|
| McCombs | Apply as Unspecified Business; choose the major after enrolling |
| Cockrell Engineering | Calculus readiness and extra transfer-course requirements |
| Architecture | Fall entry and required creative materials |
| Fine Arts | Fall entry and the program’s artistic requirements |
| Sport Management | Start with Physical Culture and Sports, then apply after prerequisites |
Start with UT’s application guide if you’re unsure whether you’re a first-year or transfer applicant.
Major, honors, dual degree: what’s the difference?
| Choice | What it means |
|---|---|
| Major | The main subject within your degree |
| Honors | Extra admission and curriculum requirements |
| Dual degree | An approved plan for two degrees |
| Integrated program | A connected bachelor’s and graduate-degree route |
Canfield is an honors program. Integrated MPA is a five-year accounting route. Read the McCombs comparison if either is on your list.
What should I check before choosing classes?
- Find the degree plan for your major and catalog year.
- Check the prerequisites for the classes you want.
- Use the current Course Schedule for offered sections and seats.
- Run your degree audit to see where existing credit counts.
- Bring missing credit or substitution questions to advising.
Why does one subject list more than one degree?
The same subject can lead to different degrees with different class requirements. A BA and a BS aren’t interchangeable just because the major name is the same.
Open the school’s requirements before deciding. The best choice is the degree whose required classes fit what you want to study.
Questions
Does getting into UT guarantee my requested major?
No. UT considers major selection separately, and some schools have extra requirements. Read the instructions for the major you want.
Will UT consider my second-choice major?
UT says it may consider your second choice if you qualify for automatic admission and don’t get your first choice. It isn’t a guaranteed backup place.
Pay differs between degree variants
For UT graduates working in Texas and covered by seekUT, seekUT reports first-year median pay of $112,200 for Computer Science BSCS and $102,300 for Computer Science BSA. These are 2020–2024 graduates, with earnings expressed in 2025 dollars. The degree belongs beside the subject name.
The earnings and debt investigation preserves all 174 historical code-and-degree entries and connects today’s catalog choices to their supported historical candidates. The lookup labels single candidates, multiple candidates and unmatched choices. Check the degree, graduating class and work group before using a pay figure in your decision.

How we got this
The searchable list uses the catalog’s 128 program-and-degree rows from fifteen school groups. UT Admissions’ broader “170+ areas of study” describes a different list; neither is a count of open places. Both were checked October 27, 2026.
Some rows contain several degrees. Pharmacy’s PharmD is professional study, not a first undergraduate degree. The catalog and Admissions present Strategy and Statecraft under different groups, so the school headings shouldn’t replace the program’s own application instructions.
