How are UT course grades calculated?

Each letter grade counts once toward the average. A class with more grades contributes more to its subject’s average.

How we got this

Grades come from UT’s grade dashboard, checked October 27, 2026. We count each A–F grade once and use UT’s grade-point scale to find the average, so larger classes carry more weight than smaller ones across the terms shown. A− has its own bar. The A’s percentage counts A grades. Q, CR, and other grades stay outside that average.

To find the GPA, multiply each grade’s points by the number of those grades, add them up, and divide by the number of letter grades. The share of A’s is the number of A grades divided by that same total.

UT leaves out some small classes to protect students’ privacy. Past grades can help you compare classes, but the workload and the grade you earn will depend on the term, the instructor, and how you study.
