6 options

First-year, summer or fall 2027

Apply by December 1, 2026. Required documents and official scores are due December 10.

  1. Use the first-year checklist for summer or fall 2027.
  2. Send your transcripts and official test scores; complete the essay and short answers.
  3. Check MyStatus for extra items required by your major or honors program.
I already applied Early Action

You’ll receive a decision or deferral by January 15, 2027. If deferred, you’ll hear by February 15.

  1. Check MyStatus for missing items.
  2. Read your own decision message there.
I’m transferring from another college

The summer/fall transfer application is due March 1, with documents due March 10. Check the year and whether your major accepts transfers for that term.

  1. Check the required transferable hours and prerequisites.
  2. Read your major’s extra course and application requirements.
International first-year applicant

The regular summer/fall deadlines are December 1 for the application and December 10 for documents. The international checklist also explains transcripts and English-language requirements.

  1. Use UT’s international applicant definition.
  2. If you attended college after secondary-school graduation, check international-transfer instructions instead.
I’m at UT and want to change majors

Use the destination school’s internal-transfer process. First-year and external-transfer application dates don’t apply.

  1. Check the school’s application cycle and prerequisites.
  2. For McCombs, check UT hours, GPA and prerequisite credit.
I applied for spring 2027

The September 1 application and September 8 document deadlines have passed. Check MyStatus for your decision and any remaining tasks.

  1. Follow the spring instructions for your applicant type.
  2. Ask Admissions about your decision date if it isn’t clear in MyStatus.

If you haven’t attended college after high-school graduation, start with first-year instructions. College credit earned during high school doesn’t make you a transfer applicant.

Housing has an application clock before the admission result

UT allows the housing application after the admissions application is complete, beginning August 1. The published selection priority follows the completed housing application, while admission, enrollment and contract steps govern later eligibility.

The housing queue and annual-cost guide explains what an early application changes. No published first-choice hall probability was found, so an early date shouldn’t be sold as a guaranteed room.

Your requested major or honors program may need extra materials. Put those next to the university checklist before submitting.

Which test scores do I need?

An official SAT, ACT or Classic Learning Test (CLT) score satisfies UT’s test requirement. Have the testing agency send it directly; typing a score into your application doesn’t replace that step.

UT doesn’t superscore. It uses your highest score from one test date. SAT Essay, ACT Writing, ACT Science and SAT Subject Tests aren’t required by the current first-year instructions.

Does top 5% get me into my major?

Eligible Texas applicants in the top 5% have an automatic-admission route for summer or fall 2027 and spring 2028. You still need to meet the rest of UT’s requirements and submit the application.

That route gets you university admission, not a guaranteed place in your requested major. McCombs applicants choose Unspecified Business; honors programs have additional applications.

How do I know UT has my documents?

Use MyStatus to check your to-do list and messages. Documents can take up to ten business days to appear, and longer near a deadline.

UT uses the date a document arrives, not the date staff finish reviewing it. If an item still looks missing, check the instructions for that item before sending it again.

What if I’m applying for spring?

Use the spring instructions for your applicant type. The fall dates above don’t apply.

For a spring decision date, follow your MyStatus message and ask Admissions if you need clarification. Two public UT pages give different dates; the details are in the note below.

Questions

Is December 10 a second application deadline?

No. Submit the regular first-year application by December 1. December 10 is for the required supplemental materials and scores.

Does a deferral mean I was rejected?

No. UT continues reviewing deferred Early Action applicants and says they will hear by February 15, 2027.

Your requested major faces its own review

Automatic university admission secures a university place while the requested major receives its own review. A college rate and a university rate describe overlapping decisions.

For a plan involving a later major change, the internal-transfer prerequisites, entry terms and capacity matter from the start. The admissions history links program figures and explains which student groups they describe.

How we got this

The dates and requirements come from UT’s first-year, review and FAQ pages, checked October 27, 2026. Dates for transfer applicants and other entry terms belong to their own checklists.

The first-year page lists December 1 for spring decisions; the review page lists December 15. We haven’t chosen between them. Use MyStatus and Admissions for the date that applies to you.
