What is UT Austin’s acceptance rate?
UT accepted 22.22% of first-year applicants for fall 2025: 20,154 out of 90,690. UT’s fall 2026 announcement left out the number accepted, so fall 2025 is the newest rate you can work out.

The latest complete acceptance figures
Use the entering class year beside each percentage. UT’s 2025–26 report describes students entering in fall 2025.

| Entering group | Applied | Accepted | Acceptance rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fall 2025 first-year | 90,690 | 20,154 | 22.22% |
| Fall 2025 transfer | 12,168 | 2,672 | 21.96% |

Why isn’t the entering class the acceptance rate?
UT accepted 20,154 first-year applicants in fall 2025, and 9,900 enrolled. Some accepted students chose another school.
That means 49.12% of accepted applicants enrolled. Dividing enrolled students by everyone who applied gives 10.92%, which answers a different calculation.
How does it differ for Texas and out-of-state applicants?
UT lists international applicants separately from out-of-state applicants. These fall 2025 results describe the whole university, not one major.

Does automatic admission guarantee my major?
No. Eligible Texas applicants in the top 5% have an automatic-admission route for summer/fall 2027 and spring 2028, but selection for a major is separate. Check the full eligibility rules and your intended school’s requirements.
Is transferring an easier way in?
The fall 2025 transfer rate was 21.96%, but transfer applicants bring college coursework and meet different requirements. The two rates don’t tell you whether waiting and transferring would improve your own chances.

What should I do with this number?
Use it to understand how selective UT has been, then work through the checklist for your major and entry year. For fall 2027 first-year entry, the regular application is due December 1, 2026, with documents due December 10.
A plan beyond the percentage
Compare the major you want, the cost after aid and alternatives you’d be willing to attend. A historical university rate can’t tell you which application choice is best for you.

No. University admission and selection for your requested major are separate.
Why do websites give different acceptance rates?
They may use different years or groups, an older application count, or the number who enrolled instead of the number accepted.
The applicant mix changed the headline rate
Between fall 2024 and fall 2025, UT’s published rate fell from 26.64% to 22.22%. A symmetric arithmetic comparison attributes 2.02 percentage points to changing geographic applicant shares and 2.40 points to lower rates within those groups.
The admissions history explains the cohorts, geographic categories and requested-major review. The current acceptance rate for a Texan outside automatic admission still needs a matching count of applications.
Research cutoff October 30, 2026.
How we got this
Counts come from UT’s 2025–26 Common Data Set, C1 for first-year applicants and D2 for transfers, checked October 27, 2026. Acceptance is the number accepted divided by the number who applied. Small “unknown” categories are included in the full first-year total.
The 2026 announcement gives applications and enrollment but no offers count. Residency rates don’t divide applicants into automatic and non-automatic admission, and none is a major-specific or personal probability.
