How do I transfer into McCombs from another UT major?
For spring 2027, apply by December 1, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. CT. You need at least a 3.25 UT GPA, 24 eligible UT hours and the required calculus, economics and rhetoric courses.

Can I talk to McCombs before I apply?
Yes. McCombs lists two more fall 2026 information sessions, both in CBA 3.304: Thursday, November 5, 4–5 p.m., and Tuesday, November 17, 11 a.m.–noon. BBA Outreach also holds drop-in hours in CBA 2.312 on Mondays 3–4:30 p.m., Tuesdays 2–3:30 p.m. and Thursdays 10–11:30 a.m. These times were listed on McCombs’ internal-transfer page on November 4, 2026.
Your application checklist
Spring and fall requirements are below.
Spring 2027
Apply by December 1, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. CT. Any unfinished prerequisites must be UT classes. Business replaces your current major.
Fall 2027
The application opens February 1 and closes May 1. You can finish prerequisites outside UT by the end of spring; later summer classes won’t count.

Which GPA, hours and classes do I need?
The minimum GPA is 3.25 in classes taken at UT. You also need 24 eligible hours taken at UT and must apply within your first four fall/spring semesters there.
The 24 hours don’t include transfer credit, placement, extension, correspondence, PED or pass/fail work. A prerequisite can count as completed without adding to those 24 UT hours.
- Calculus
- Calculus I and II, using the alternatives below.
- Economics
- ECO 304K and ECO 304L.
- Rhetoric
- RHE 306, required from spring 2027 onward.
| Requirement | Courses or credit |
|---|---|
| Calculus I | M 408C, M 408K or M 408N; M 403K, M 303K, M 308K or M 503K; M 408R under the rules below |
| Calculus II | M 408D, M 408L or M 408S; M 403L, M 303L, M 308L or M 503L |
| AP credit for M 408R | Counts for Calculus I only |
| M 408R taken at UT | Counts for Calculus I and II |
| M 408Q completed | Counts for Calculus I and II |
The school considers your academic and disciplinary standing as well as the application. Students accepted for fall 2026 averaged 3.88 GPA; spring 2026 averaged 3.84. A 3.25 lets you apply, but it doesn’t guarantee a place.
Two cases to ask McCombs about
A spring prerequisite is still in progress
For spring entry, unfinished prerequisites must be UT classes. Ask McCombs to confirm the completion deadline if you won’t finish by December 1.
You have 90 or more college hours
Ask whether you can apply and which hours count. The school webpage and flyer describe this limit differently; the note below explains the difference.
What goes in the application?
- Choose spring or fall. Spring entry replaces your current major with Business; it doesn’t add a second major.
- Check every prerequisite. Write down where you took it and when you’ll finish. For fall entry, outside coursework must be finished by the end of spring; later summer classes won’t count.
- Prepare your résumé and responses. The school lists a required statement of up to 500 words and an optional academic-circumstances response of up to 500 words. Use the exact prompts in the application.
- Submit before your deadline. Save the confirmation and check the decision during the window for your term.
An information session is optional. Use it to ask about a class, credit limit or deadline before building your schedule around a transfer.
What if I’m outside UT or want Canfield?
Students at another college use the external-transfer application. Canfield Business Honors has a separate sophomore application, with different instructions for current BBA students, other UT students and applicants outside UT.
Why the required classes may not add up to 24 hours
M 408Q has 4 hours. ECO 304K, ECO 304L and RHE 306 have 3 each. Together that’s 13 hours, so you’d still need 11 more eligible UT hours to reach 24 if you took all four at UT.
McCombs accepts M 408Q for both calculus requirements. It’s still one 4-hour class, not two.
Scroll sideways to see every column.
| Course | Hours | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| M 408K | 4 | One Calculus I option |
| M 408L | 4 | M 308L is a different, 3-hour course |
| M 408Q | 4 | Accepted for both calculus requirements |
| ECO 304K and ECO 304L | 3 each | ECO 304L needs at least C− in ECO 304K |
| RHE 306 | 3 | Required from spring 2027 onward |
Questions before you apply
What GPA do I need?
You need at least a 3.25 GPA in classes taken at UT to apply. Students accepted for fall 2026 averaged 3.88; spring 2026 averaged 3.84. The minimum lets you apply, but it doesn’t promise a place.
Do AP or transfer hours count toward the 24 UT hours?
No. The 24-hour requirement is for eligible classes taken at UT. An AP or transfer course may satisfy a prerequisite without adding to those 24 hours.
Is RHE 306 required?
Yes, for spring 2027 applicants onward. You also need the listed calculus and economics courses.
Can I finish a prerequisite at another college?
For spring 2027, unfinished prerequisites must be UT classes. For fall 2027, the school allows outside coursework finished by the end of spring; later summer classes won’t count.
Can I keep my current major when I enter Business in spring?
No. Spring internal transfer replaces your current major with Business; it doesn’t add Business as a second major.
Do I have to attend an information session?
No. McCombs recommends it, and it’s a good place to ask about prerequisite credit or application limits.
Before applying, make sure the major you’d keep if the transfer doesn’t work out is one you’re willing to finish.
How we got this
The requirements come from McCombs’ internal-transfer page, checked October 27, 2026, and its 2026–2027 flyer, checked October 25. Course hours and prerequisites come from the UT catalog, checked October 27.
The school webpage and flyer disagree on two points. The webpage lets unfinished UT prerequisites run to the end of fall; the flyer says December 1 while also allowing UT work in progress. The webpage recommends alternatives at 90 or more college hours, while the flyer treats fewer than 90 as a requirement and excludes high-school credit from that count. Ask McCombs which rule applies to your application.
The flyer’s February 1, May 1 and mid-June dates sit under its Fall 2027 heading; the individual date fields don’t repeat the year. The school reports average GPAs for students accepted in earlier terms, not the lowest GPA accepted.
