What is the McCombs acceptance rate?
McCombs reports a 9% BBA acceptance rate for 2025. That undergraduate rate doesn’t describe Canfield honors, internal transfer or an MBA application.

Which rate applies to my application?
Start with the program and how you’re applying. McCombs’ admissions webpage publishes a rounded 9%; its 2025 flyer provides matched applicant and offer counts.

| Program or route | Year | What is available |
|---|---|---|
| McCombs BBA | 2025 | 9% acceptance rate |
| UT first-year, all majors | Fall 2025 | 22.22% |
| Canfield sophomore | 2026 | 32 accepted from 188 applicants: 17.02% |
| Canfield sophomore | 2025 | 32 accepted from 183 applicants: 17.49% |
| McCombs internal transfer | Selected term | No acceptance rate given here |
| External transfer to BBA | Selected term | No rate inferred from first-year BBA |
| Full-Time MBA | Selected class | Use the graduate program |
Why is UT’s overall rate higher?
UT’s overall 22.22% covers every school and major, so the rest of UT, taken together, accepts a larger share than McCombs’ 9%. The entering class, which counts only students who enrolled, is smaller than the number accepted because some accepted students go elsewhere.
In a made-up example, 900 accepted out of 10,000 applicants is 9%, even if only 600 enroll.
Which McCombs application are you using?
Am I applying to the BBA from high school?
Use the first-year application. The 2025 BBA rate of 9% describes that past group, not your personal chance.
- Select Unspecified Business (200400) as your first-choice major.
- Complete UT’s application and document deadlines.
- Add the honors application if you want Canfield.
Am I already at UT and want Business?
Use internal transfer and its term-specific GPA, credit and class rules. The 9% BBA rate doesn’t describe this process.
- Choose spring or fall entry.
- Check the 3.25 UT GPA minimum and the required classes.
- Check unfinished prerequisites and whether Business would replace your major.
Am I transferring from another college?
Use McCombs’ external-transfer instructions. First-year BBA percentages don’t describe that applicant group.
- Check the accepted entry term and required coursework.
- Confirm course equivalencies with UT’s transfer-credit resources.
- If you also want Canfield, check its outside-UT sophomore route.
Am I applying to Canfield after my first year?
Use the sophomore application. The cited 2026 group had 32 accepted students from 188 applicants.
- Check first-year eligibility and required classes.
- Choose the current-UT or outside-UT process that fits you.
- Check recommendations, dates and interview instructions.
Am I applying for an MBA?
Use that graduate program’s instructions. The undergraduate BBA rate doesn’t apply to an MBA.
- Choose the MBA format and application round.
- Read that program’s tests, materials and class information.
- Use graduate costs and funding for your budget.
What do the Canfield sophomore numbers show?
Canfield accepted 32 of 188 sophomore applicants in 2026 and 32 of 183 in 2025. The rate fell by 0.47 percentage points while the accepted count stayed the same.
The 2026 accepted group averaged 3.98 GPA, compared with 3.90 for applicants. An average isn’t a minimum.

|---|---|---|
| Applications | 183 | 188 |
| Accepted | 32 | 32 |
| Calculated acceptance rate | 17.49% | 17.02% |
| Accepted students’ average GPA | 3.98 | 3.98 |
| Applicants’ average GPA | 3.88 | 3.90 |
Does top 5% guarantee McCombs?
No. UT still decides whether to offer the requested major to eligible top-5% applicants for summer/fall 2027 or spring 2028. A guaranteed place at UT isn’t a guaranteed place in Business.
What do I select for fall 2027?
McCombs tells first-year applicants to choose Unspecified Business (200400) as their first-choice major. Complete the university application and any Canfield application items.
Regular first-year applications are due December 1, 2026, with documents due December 10. Early Action’s October deadlines have passed.
Should I plan to transfer into Business later?
Only if you’d also be willing to complete the degree you enter. Internal transfer is competitive and has its own GPA, credit and course rules.
For business coursework without the BBA, compare the Business Foundations Minor. It isn’t an alternate route into the degree.
What if I want a Texas-only McCombs rate?
Matching resident and nonresident BBA counts aren’t given beside the 9% figure. UT-wide residency rates can’t fill that gap.
Use the rules for your route, choose programs you’d want to attend and compare the cost after aid.
Questions
What year and program does 9% describe?
McCombs’ 2025 BBA, its undergraduate business degree.
Is 9% the MBA rate?
No. MBA programs have their own graduate applications.
How do Canfield and internal transfer differ?
Canfield has its own honors application. Internal transfer is for students already at UT seeking the BBA; neither uses the 9% as its own rate.
Does automatic UT admission include McCombs?
No. An offer from UT doesn’t guarantee Business.
Is there a Texas-resident BBA rate?
The displayed BBA statistic doesn’t give matching applicant and offer counts by residency, so no such rate is calculated here.
A similar-size McCombs class needed fewer offers
Matched McCombs publications show 8,885 applications and 1,695 offers in 2020, against 16,512 and 1,546 in the 2025 flyer. Enrollment was 995 and 1,010. A higher share taking their offers let a similar class fill with fewer offers.
The flyer’s matched counts give 9.4%; the 2025 magazine lists different counts. The admissions investigation compares the publications and McCombs’ rejected 2023 expansion proposal.
Research cutoff October 30, 2026.
How we got this
The 9% comes from McCombs’ 2025 Admissions Statistics. UT counts come from the 2025–26 Common Data Set; Canfield counts and GPAs come from its sophomore page. These pages were checked October 27, 2026.
The Canfield application count rose by five, or 2.73%, from 2025 to 2026. These two years don’t make a trend or a first-year honors rate. Group averages and historical percentages don’t predict an individual decision.
