What is UT Austin’s transfer acceptance rate?
UT accepted 21.96% of fall 2025 external-transfer applicants: 2,672 out of 12,168. That is the rate for all of UT, not a particular major or the internal-transfer process for students already there.
In this guide
Which transfer process do I need?
Applying from another college uses external transfer. If you’re already at UT and want another major, use the destination school’s internal-transfer process.
Which transfer question do you have?
Am I applying from another college?
Check your entry term, transferable hours and major before using a past acceptance rate as context.
- Choose domestic or international transfer instructions.
- Check the required coursework and major prerequisites.
- Track the application and each required document.
Can I use spring courses still in progress?
The domestic spring route doesn’t let unfinished coursework meet the 24-hour threshold.
- Check the spring-specific completed-hours rule.
- Check whether your intended major accepts spring transfers.
- Ask Admissions about uncertain eligibility before assuming a future class counts.
Am I already at UT and changing majors?
Use the destination school’s internal-transfer process.
- Choose the school and application cycle.
- Check its prerequisites and UT-hour limits.
- Use the school’s process instead of the external-transfer application.
How do I find out whether a course transfers?
A transfer equivalency doesn’t automatically say how the class fills your degree.
- Find the sending-school course and its current offering.
- Use ATE or the relevant official evaluation route.
- Ask the program about degree use and missing prerequisites.
What if I applied but documents are missing?
A submitted application still needs the required documents.
- Check every institution attended and major-specific item.
- Use MyStatus and the current document deadline.
- Don’t assume one school’s transcript replaces another institution’s transcript.
How many applied, got in and enrolled?
Of the 2,672 applicants accepted for fall 2025, 2,026 enrolled. That’s 75.82% of those accepted, not another acceptance rate.
Scroll the table to compare every column.
| Step | People or rate |
|---|---|
| Applied | 12,168 |
| Accepted | 2,672 |
| Enrolled | 2,026 |
| Acceptance rate | 21.96% |
Do I have enough college coursework?
UT’s domestic transfer instructions require 24 semester hours of the specified transferable coursework. Spring applicants can’t use courses still in progress to meet that condition.
Check the exact major and use the international instructions if they apply to you.
When are the application and documents due?
Save both dates. The later document date isn’t extra time to submit the application.
Scroll the table to compare every column.
| Entry term | Application | Documents | Decisions listed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Summer/fall | March 1 | March 10 | June 30 |
| Spring | September 1 | September 8 | December 15 |
Check the actual entry year and your major’s extra instructions.
Will a transferable class count for my degree?
Admissions decides whether the class transfers; your academic program decides where it fits the degree. For Texas coursework, use the Automated Transfer Equivalency system and then confirm program use.
Grades below C− don’t transfer, and transfer grades don’t go into your internal UT GPA. An old equivalency can also describe a course the other college no longer offers.
Which transcripts should I send?
Follow UT’s instructions for every institution attended, including dual-credit and earlier transferred coursework. One college’s transcript doesn’t automatically replace another’s.
Use MyStatus to check what is missing before the materials deadline. Once accepted, check the credit evaluation and degree audit as well.

Does transferable credit automatically meet my major requirement?

Is this McCombs internal transfer?
No. Internal transfer is for students already at UT and has school-specific rules.
How we got this
The fall 2025 counts come from the 2025–26 Common Data Set, D2, PDF page 24. Admission and transfer instructions were checked October 27, 2026. Enrollment divided by all applicants is 16.65%; that isn’t the 21.96% acceptance rate.
The application and document dates are nine calendar days apart for summer/fall and seven for spring. These are the page’s recurring month/day dates, so confirm the year and major before using them.
