Should I use traditional or fixed tuition?

Traditional tuition uses the current semester’s table. Longhorn Fixed Tuition is an optional four-year program for first-time UT undergraduates; its higher initial price reflects a projected four-year average.

Compare the table for your own entering class. A tuition freeze doesn’t make every college or credit load cost the same.

Will my housing fit the budget?

What’s the cost for fall and spring?

Tuition: $10,858–$13,576 · Total estimated cost: $32,508–$35,386

What will my housing cost?

Use the amounts in your quote. Leave a cost blank if you don’t know it; enter zero only if it’s free.

Enter your rent and payment count.

Enter the whole agreement, not just the rent for class months. A 12-payment lease still needs 12 payments if your family funds it over nine months.

For example, twelve $900 payments, twelve $80 required charges and a $200 fee total $11,960 before food. Saving that over nine months takes about $1,329 a month, while the lease’s base payment stays $900.

A rent quote and a year’s housing budget can differ sharply

In a labeled example using the current 2026–27 hall schedule and a selected 2027–28 apartment offer, a basic shared hall totals $16,065 and the apartment $18,898. The calculation buys comparable academic food and adds assumed utilities, insurance and other food; unpriced items still need adding.

Exactly $2,833 of additional hall gap housing cost compared with the apartment’s gaps erases the difference; more reverses it. The annual housing budget shows the dates, room types and inputs so you can replace them with your own offers.

What changes if I live with parents?

UT uses $7,910 for housing and food in that budget. Its total is $7,510–$7,670 below the on/off-campus resident estimate.

That isn’t automatically your cash saving. Add what you’ll contribute at home, plus your commute and food costs.

How do I account for aid?

Subtract grants and scholarships from your costs to estimate what you must fund. Loans help pay the bill but must be repaid; don’t count them as a discount.

UT’s net-price calculator is an estimate, not an aid offer. Use the final aid award and tuition bill when they arrive.

The budget to use before committing

Put tuition, the full housing agreement, food and travel on the same calendar. Add the aid and other funding you expect by each due date.

Choose a plan you can pay for when the bills arrive, with any unknown fee still visible.

Oil money reaches campus through several decisions

Mineral royalties become permanent investment capital. A governed payout supports the two university systems, their debt service and campus allocations. Those decisions determine what Austin receives for operations and programs.

The regents’ May 2025 rule sets the default payout at 7% of a trailing twenty-quarter investment value. The oil-to-campus investigation shows the audited financial bridge and Austin’s allocation, budget and spending.

The bill, grants and accounting revenue measure three prices

The tuition schedule gives your college, residency and enrollment charge. Federal net price subtracts grants from an attendance budget for a defined freshman group. A loan finances the cost you still owe.

UT changed how institutional aid is assigned to tuition in FY2025. Its 29.8% reported net-revenue decline crosses that accounting change. The tuition investigation explains the historical rates, the newer accounting and the remaining NCES check of the newest net prices.

Graduate pay and today’s bill use different dates

Among measured Computer Science BSCS graduates working in Texas, the middle half of first-year pay ran from $91,800 to $144,500. That range covers the 2020–2024 graduate group in 2025 dollars. Your current tuition, living costs and grant offer have their own dates.

The earnings investigation gives degree-level pay ranges, borrower shares and dated loan definitions. Compare the relevant degree and work group with your cost after grants, then calculate payments from the amount you expect to borrow.

How we got this

Figures come from One Stop’s 2026–27 full-time undergraduate fall-and-spring budget and the traditional tuition chart, checked October 27, 2026. Summer uses a different budget.

Housing examples are invented to explain the calculator. Refundable deposits need cash upfront but stay outside the expense total. Totals use unrounded inputs before whole-dollar display.
