How do I apply to Canfield Business Honors?
First-year applicants select Unspecified Business and complete Canfield’s honors application; the current first-year process has no pre-admission phone interview. Sophomore applicants use a different checklist and may be invited to an alumni phone interview in June.

What would I study?
Canfield is a Business Honors major within McCombs. Its flexible degree plan lets many students combine it with another major; a second business major can be added after first year.
Texas CSB and ECB are combined honors options with their own requirements. Lay out the required courses before assuming a combination fits four years.
Which application fits my stage?
A UT offer, a McCombs offer and a Canfield offer are separate decisions. Follow the checklist for where you are now.
Scroll the table to compare every column.
| Your stage | Start here | What differs |
|---|---|---|
| High school applicant | Common App, Unspecified Business first choice, plus honors application | No pre-admission phone interview in the current process |
| Current first-year UT student | Internal Transfer Application | Sophomore requirements and invited June interviews |
| First-year college student outside UT | Apply to UT under McCombs | Accepted students are considered for Canfield application invitations |
| Past the first college year | Ask about other options | The listed sophomore route isn’t available |
What goes in the first-year application?
Select Unspecified Business as your first-choice major, complete the honors essay, and send the expanded résumé and academic recommendation using the current instructions.
The 300-word prompt asks you to use a résumé example to explain teamwork and community. Name the group, the problem, what you did and what changed; the title you held isn’t the whole story.
A made-up club-treasurer example might explain a budget disagreement, the options the treasurer showed the group and the decision members made. Use your own experience, not that scenario as a formula.
Can I apply after my first year?
The sophomore application reopens February 1, 2027. It requires 24 college hours across first-year fall and spring, the specified economics, calculus and rhetoric courses, a statement, résumé and eligible academic recommendation.
Check course restrictions before taking business core classes; some completed classes make an applicant ineligible. In 2026, 32 of 188 applicants were accepted, about 17.0%, and the accepted group averaged 3.98 GPA.
Which 2027 dates should I save?
UT’s regular first-year application is due December 1, 2026, with documents due December 10. Early Action decisions or deferrals arrive by January 15, 2027; regular and deferred decisions by February 15. Honors decisions are listed for March 1.
Track each honors item alongside the university checklist. Make sure the degree you’d take without a later honors offer is still one you want.
Questions
Do first-year applicants have a phone interview?
The current first-year application page says there are no pre-admission phone interviews. Sophomore applicants have a separate invited-interview process.
Is a McCombs offer enough for Canfield?
No. Canfield has its own application and decision.
Is 3.98 the minimum GPA for sophomore admission?
No. It’s the average of the students accepted in the cited 2026 group.
How we got this
Program and application instructions were checked on Canfield and UT Admissions pages on October 26–27, 2026. The phone-interview difference is between first-year and sophomore routes, not a promise about an individual invitation.
The calculated 17.0% describes the 2026 sophomore pool. The pages don’t give a matching first-year honors application count and offers count, and 3.98 is an average, not a minimum.
