Get the room inventory
- Bedroom: mattress size, bed frame, desk, chair, drawers and closet storage. Ask whether a shared bedroom uses a different bed size.
- Living room: seating, tables and television. Confirm whether the photographed items belong to the model or come with your apartment.
- Kitchen: appliances, cookware, dishes and small appliances. A refrigerator does not imply a stocked kitchen.
- Laundry: an installed washer and dryer, hookups only, or shared paid machines.
Save the written list with the floor plan. Ask about damaged furniture, replacement charges and whether you may remove supplied pieces.
The bedroom needs space around the furniture
A floor plan’s total apartment area includes rooms you may share. Ask for the internal dimensions of your assigned bedroom, with its building, plan and bedroom letter attached. Dividing apartment square footage by the bedroom count won’t tell you whether your desk fits.
- Mark the room’s internal length and width, wall recesses, fixed furniture, windows, outlets, and the space used by opening doors and closets. Ask whether a drawing is to scale and which dimensions are approximate.
- Put the bed frame, desk and storage on that plan using their outside dimensions. A mattress size leaves out the frame; a closed drawer leaves out the space needed to open it.
- Check the layout with the chair pulled out, doors open, and a route between the bed, desk, storage and exit. Measure the delivery route too: entrances, hallway turns, elevator and bedroom doorway.
- Confirm uncertain measurements on a visit or a measured walkthrough of the assigned room. If the room isn’t assigned yet, ask what layout is guaranteed and what could change before buying furniture.
UT’s Colorado Apartments page warns that its example tours and plans can differ from the space assigned. Colorado is on Lake Austin Boulevard; its example isn’t a measurement of a West Campus bedroom. Keep each room’s measurements beside its own inventory and quote.
The UT page was checked November 3, 2026. Bedroom dimensions and average room size remain unverified. For an accessible layout or a required clearance, confirm the particular room and requirements with the appropriate housing or accessibility office.
Compare furnished and unfurnished costs
Scroll across for every column.
| Furnished room | Unfurnished room |
|---|---|
| Any furniture package charge and replacement liability | Purchase or rental cost for the pieces you need |
| Storage or return requirements for supplied furniture | Delivery, assembly and moving costs |
| Move-out cleaning and damage rules | Storage between terms, resale or disposal costs |
Use your own priced shopping list for the stay you expect. An apartment with a higher monthly payment may avoid setup costs; an existing furniture collection may make an unfurnished room easier. Neither outcome follows from the label alone.
Read the dated furniture policies
These examples come from published property policies collected on the dates shown. They illustrate differences to check; confirm the policy for your exact room and term. They are not a ranking or a list of available rooms.
